PSC approves special incentives for PH women’s football team

THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Board on Tuesday approved the awarding of PHP1.25 million worth of special incentives for the Philippine Women’s Football Team for qualifying for the 2023 FIFA Women World Cup.

The board unanimously approved the incentive as it “recognizes the significance of their breakthrough performance during the Asian Cup and the qualification to the 2023 World Cup,” PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez said of the approval of special incentives.

The 23 players plus two reserves shall receive PHP50,000 each for their historic feat made at the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup in India, after reaching the semifinals and making it to the World Cup next year.

“I am proud of our women football team members. We met them yesterday and we can feel their humility and strong team spirit. I think this contributed much to their success, among other factors” Ramirez said.

Last Monday, Ramirez along with PSC Commissioners Celia Kiram and Arnold Agustin, welcomed Philippine Football Federation president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta Jr. and the members of the national team — Chandler and Olivia McDaniel, Camille Rodriguez, Anicka and Sara Castañeda, Hali Long, and Inna Palacios– during their courtesy visit to the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.
