BF NI NADINE LUSTRE, IBINAHAGI ANG CANCER JOURNEY 3 YEARS AGO

By: Beth Gelena

Aniya, nangyari raw ito three years ago.

“This was something I never thought I’d share at all on social media. Maybe I never did because I preferred not to be seen as the victim or to use this illness to appeal for pity. And while I was successfully overcoming it, I saw many around me losing their lives trying to, so it didn’t feel right to talk about myself.

“But around 3 years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer and I was told I only had a few weeks left to live. I experienced the darkest sensation of fear, which is something I thought I had already known because it wasn’t the first time I was in a life threatening situation.

But this was different. The enemy was invisible and deep inside my own body – a body that I never doubted before, at the age of 27,” kuwento ni Christophe.

Nu’ng una raw ay natakot siya.

“I was scared but I was also angry and frustrated at life. I thought, I’ll never have kids, my own family, or finish what I started in Siargao. I will never get my first barrel surfing.”

Natanong din niya ang sarili: “ Why is this happening to me? Why me? I felt so full of life and suddenly finding out I had a couple weeks left to live was devastating… to say the least.”

Pinili raw niyang mag-stay sa Siargao.

“Live the best I could out of my last days and not even bother trying to cure myself since I thought there was not much hope left.”

“I learned from other doctors that there was a chance to heal but I had to drop everything, leave immediately, and go back to France to a specialized hospital,” kuwento pa niya.

Na-diskubre raw ng mga doktor na may rare type of lymphoma siya and even mentioned “it was so rare they had no statistics of survival but that they were still hopeful and my six-month treatment started.”

“Not only was I lucky enough to benefit from the best treatments available from the leading cancer research center in Europe, but all of this was completely free of charge thanks to the rights the French fought for. It just makes me think how unfair it can be in other countries when something as bad as this hits,” pagbabahagi pa ni Christophe.

Pagkatapos daw ng kanyang 2-month chemotherapy at immunotherapy, “I was full remission. Live and let live.”

“I can never rhank enough everyone who supported me during these tough times — my partner at the time, my family and my friends,” sabi pa niya.

Komento ng ilang netizens: “Thank you for sharing from the heart and for embodying the light for all sentient beings.”

“So inspiring Chris! Powerful”

“Bakit sobrang nalungkot ako kahit di ko naman sya personally kilala. Maybe because para talaga syang mabait.”

“He’s already well that was 2 yrs aho. hopefully wag na bunalik ang cancer. lam mo nman ang cancer sneaky”

“Full remission sya pero hindi pa cancer free usually 5 years or more bago masasabi ng doctors na cancer free na. Regularly pa rin sya nagpapacheck up. Kaage lang pla sya ni nandine. Sana magkatuluyan si nanadine mukhang nice sya”

“Wow in 2 months only tapos rare pa it’s a miracle”

“Omg! I’m really surprised by this. Praying that he recovers and will be healed soon.?? He seems like a good fit fot Nadine.”

“Mukang he’s a family man and wants to have his own sa future. Wag sya paasahin ni Nadine na very vocal na ayaw magka anak”

“Sana tuloy tuloy na. Wag mo iiwan si Nadine pls”

“So he has a partner pala during his treatments before Nadine?”

“Happy to know that youre in remission! Nadine is truly God sent to you, she stayed by your side and took care of you. God speed.”
