I was told that there is this social media account that had been established with but one, solitary purpose: serve as a black propaganda vehicle against the sitting administration at the Manila City Hall.
It is preoccupied with ‘making the rounds’ of all city officials, attacking us one after another, using nothing but lies after lies, after lies.
Apparently, they believe in the saying that ‘lies, when repeated often, becomes truth’.
Those behind the said account may think so, but apparently, they have been nothing but such a big failure. The number of reactions, comments and views are just pathetic.
It is good to know that the netizens, specially those who are residents or closely following the goings-on in Manila, have shown no interest in wasting their precious time on reading or watching lies.
They are also smart enough to know that they are being fed with disinformation all in the name of politics.
The next elections are yet to take place in 2025 and yet, the political foes of the ruling local party Asenso Manileno have not moved on and in fact, are starting this early with pushing their dirty politics.
Obviously, they have not learned anything from the humiliating defeat they suffered when now Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo won over their respective opponents by the largest margin ever recorded in the history of Manila politics.
They think Manilans are gullible and stupid to believe their lies that they used fabrications during the last polls.
With the overwhelming leads enjoyed not only by the duo but by the entire slate that swept all positions from the six Congressmen down to the 36 members of the Manila City Council despite the smear campaign overload, it is clear that the voters did not believe any of it and in fact rejected all such attempts.
The people of Manila have spoken and thankfully, they continue to do so, by not patronizing the social media account that contains nothing but smear campaign directed against the officials of the Manila city government.
As far as we in the city officialdom are concerned, we will not be distracted. In fact, in our recently-concluded Executive-Legislative Agenda (ELA) seminar, which had city officials and councilors in attendance, the direction that we will jointly take at least for the coming three years is clear and has in fact been polished.
Let our rivals be busy with manufacturing lies while we in the city government will devote all our time, energy and resources in doing everything humanly possible in order to provide the best kind of services that the residents of Manila so deserve.
Instead of launching a black propaganda, I dare those behind the dark social account to channel their futile efforts on giving to the needy.
The netizens who happen to be Manila residents may also ask themselves if the said rumor mongers running the said account have given them even just a can of sardines or a piece of face mask during this pandemic.
They claim to be so concerned about the welfare of the city and yet do nothing to help the residents in any way. Lies will never fill empty stomachs.
By the way, the account name being used by these black propagandists sounds like ‘One Manira.’ It’s because that’s what they do. Manira nang manira.
