Namatay ang isang milyong katao dahil sa COVID-19 sa taong 2022, ayon sa ulat ng World Health Organization (WHO).
Tinawag ito ng WHO na “tragic milestone” sa kabila nang pagkakaroon ng kagamitan upang mapigilan ang pagkalat ng naturang virus.
“This week, we crossed the tragic milestone of one million reported deaths so far this year.
“We cannot say we are learning to live with COVID-19 when one million people have died with COVID-19 this year alone, when we are two-and-a-half years into the pandemic and have all the tools necessary to prevent these deaths,” pahayag ni WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus sa isang press conference.
Nanawagan din si Tedros sa mga kinauukulan na bakunahan ang mga health workers, matatanda at mga high risk sa sakit.
“We ask all governments to strengthen their efforts to vaccinate all health workers, older people and others at the highest risk, on the way to 70 percent vaccine coverage for the whole population,” dagdag pa nito.
Nais sana ni Tedros na mabakunahan ng lahat ng mga bansa ang 70 porsyento ng kanilang mga populasyon sa katapusan ng Hunyo. Ngunit 136 na bansa ang nabigo na maabot ang target.
