Various volunteer groups in La Union yesterday signed a “Memorandum of Agreement (MOA)” with the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC) to provide voluntary blood donors to ensure the availability of bloods products in the province during the celebration of “World Blood Donor Day” at the Regional Blood Center (RBC) located at Barangay Sagayad, San Fernando City, La Union.
Among the groups who voluntarily entered into MOA are the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Saluyot Chapter, Philippine Dental Association – La Union Chapter, BikeBros and Rotary Club of San Fernando City North.
Leaders of the various groups vowed to support all mobile blood donation activities of the regional office.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco extended her congratulations to the members who voluntarily took part of the activity. “You are now part of the prestigious group of “heroes” that bestow the gift of life. Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Let us all join effort and save lives.”.
Ilocos region collected a total of 66,581 (1.21%) units in 2021 achieving the 1% regional target blood collection rate.
Sydiongco added that approximately 18,000 blood units were collected during the first quarter of 2022. “We are confident that we can achieve or even surpass the 1% target this year with the support and commitment of everyone, especially our partner agencies and volunteer groups.”
Meanwhile, a total of 36 donors successfully donated their blood in yesterday’s celebration. All the blood units collected will be stored at the ITRMC for orderly and effective release, delivery and utilization for patients needing blood transfusion.
Ms. Marites B. Estrella, program manager of the DOH National Voluntary Blood Services Program (NVBSP), who were the guest of honor during the event urged healthy individuals aged 18 to 65 to donate blood every three months to ensure regular supply for various medical procedures in hospitals and also to keep fit and healthy.
