Camp Lapulapu, Cebu City – In response to the statement of Atty Levito Baligod, the Legal Counsel of the Degamo family during the press briefing in Camp Crame, Visayas Command (VISCOM) expresses its willingness to assist the witnesses of the killing incidents in Negros Oriental.
“We are very much willing to assist the witnesses, both on the violent attack that killed Gov Degamo as well as on the previous killing incidents in Negros Oriental, so as to assure them of their safety and bring the perpetrators to justice,” said Lieutenant General Benedict M Arevalo PA, the Commander of VISCOM.
In a press briefing held by the Special Task Force Degamo on Monday at Camp Crame, Atty Baligod revealed that there were at least 64 killing incidents in Negros Oriental prior to the violent attack that killed Gov Degamo on March 04. He further revealed that the families of the victims and other witnesses have come out and expressed their willingness to cooperate with the government authorities provided that they would be granted with security.
Likewise, in a media interview after the press conference, Atty Baligod emphasized that they rely heavily on the AFP in the area for their security and of the community.
Lt Gen Arevalo further expressed that ‘coordination with concerned individuals and appropriate agencies will be made so as not to compromise the security of the witnesses’, as he reaffirms their commitment to restore the peace and order in the province, “We value the trust and confidence of the people in Negros Oriental to your Armed Forces.
