By: Victor Baldemor Ruiz

Camp Lapulapu, Cebu City – Treading on sustaining its gains in the fight against the CPP-NPA, the Visayas Command (VISCOM) vows to sustain its peace endeavors in the Visayas region following the 3rd Quarter VISCOM’s Multi-Sector Advisory Board (MSAB) Meeting.

“Our security effort is doing well; and we should continue this trend as VISCOM is not only on the forefront of the AFP’s campaign in the Visayas region, but also one at the top on numbers in terms of accomplishment,” Lieutenant General Benedict M Arevalo PA, the Commander of VISCOM emphasized.

Just recently, it was reported that for the 3rd Quarter of the current year, Team VISCOM neutralized a total of 79 NPA terrorists and seized a total of 110 firearms and 25 anti-personnel mines. VISCOM attributed its success to the active support and collaboration of the community and the local government units, which was made possible through the various peace initiatives launched by VISCOM in the region.

Part of these peace initiatives is the implementation of the Barangay Development Program (BDP), wherein a total of 569 community development projects were successfully implemented throughout the entire region. The projects include Potable Water System, Farm to Market Road and Brgy Health Centers.

Said projects significantly contributed in uplifting the living condition of the people, particularly those in the far-flung communities, as well as providing them with good livelihood opportunities.

Most Reverend Jose S Palma, the Archbishop of Cebu, and the Chairperson of VISCOM’s MSAB expressed his sincerest support to VISCOM’s efforts for peace as he stressed that peace begins in one’s heart and is reflected on one’s effort, “In a simple thought of a believer, peace is both a gift and a task. We must do our own share to bring about peace. We are all peacebuilders. Peace is having a harmonious relationship between members of the family, community, and with God.”

On a similar note, Lt Gen Arevalo extended his appreciation to the MSAB as the Command remains motivated on its fight against the CPP-NPA, “We thank you for your participation as we appreciate the things that you have been doing for VISCOM. You give us inspiration and motivation to do better in this part of our country.”

During the meeting, the different Committees of the MSAB presented their updates, proposals and significant accomplishments on the current quarter which manifest the MSAB’s sustainability of its collective goal on genuine transformation and good governance in the region.
