Camp Lapulapu, Cebu City – Recognizing its valuable support to the Office of the Vice President (OVP), the Visayas Command (VISCOM) receives an award from The Honorable Vice President Sara Duterte during the ‘Pasidungog’ 2023.
Lieutenant General Benedict M Arevalo PA, the Commander of VISCOM received the award during the event, as VISCOM was recognized for its significant contribution to the OVP’s vision to reach, serve, and create a lasting impact on the lives of the Filipino people in the Visayas region in the field of disaster response operations.
“We are very thankful to The Honorable Vice President Sara Duterte for recognizing our efforts and steadfast commitment to deliver swift and efficient disaster response to ensure the safety and well-being of our people in the Visayas region,” said Lt Gen Arevalo.
As one of the OVP’s strategic partners in uplifting the lives of the Filipino people, VISCOM’s unwavering support has allowed the OVP to effectively deliver its disaster aids even in the outskirt communities in the Visayas region.
It can be recalled that in the aftermath of super typhoon ‘Odette’, VISCOM and its subordinate units mobilized hundreds of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) Teams for the conduct of search and rescue operations, road clearing operations, and relief operations to the affected communities in the region. Likewise, VISCOM also facilitated the hauling and delivery of a total of 1,532,875 tons of assorted relief goods, which significantly helped in the speedy recovery of the people from the effects of the super typhoon.
Also, during the passing of super typhoon ‘Betty’, VISCOM’s quick response by putting on standby alert 122 HADR Teams and 201 mobility assets, including five (5) patrol crafts of the Phil. Navy and 20 rubber/rescue boats manifested their steadfast commitment to ensure the safety of the people during disasters.
Lt Gen Arevalo then emphasized, “This recognition will serve as a motivation for us to strive further in our disaster response operations. Rest assured that we will stand firm in our commitment, and we will never waver in our efforts in securing and serving our people in this part of the country.”
