Camp Lapulapu, Cebu City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Annual General Inspection (AGI) Team led by Lieutenant General William N Gonzales PA, the AFP Inspector General lauds Visayas Command (VISCOM) and its subordinate units for the significant accomplishments on its internal security operations (ISO) in the Visayas region.

“I just want to commend Team VISCOM for a job well done. You have done a lot and you have accomplished a lot for the past months, especially on our ISO,” said Lt Gen Gonzales.

It can be recalled that for the month of May alone, VISCOM and its subordinate units were able to neutralize a total of 40 NPA terrorists in the Visayas; 17 of whom died during encounters while 23 have returned to the folds of the law. Apart from that, 54 firearms were also seized during the period; 38 of which were recovered during encounters, seven (7) were discovered through information provided by former rebels, and nine (9) were surrendered to the government troops.

During the AGI exit briefing, VISCOM obtained a 90.03% rating for its mission accomplishment, based on the inspection parameters set by the AGI Team for this year, and garnered a 96.62% or “Excellent” rating in Leadership and Management; Morale and Welfare; and Discipline, Law and Order.

Meanwhile, Lt Gen Arevalo expressed that the feedback coming from the AGI team will help VISCOM improve its systems, processes, and outputs towards becoming a more responsive Command, saying, “All eyes are upon us, not only in the AFP, but particularly our Commander-in-Chief. I am happy to say that with the feedback coming from the Inspector General, I am confident that we can perform to the best of our abilities.”

Lt Gen Arevalo ended by commending the troops for continually stepping up in its campaign, “Relatedly, the AFP Chief of Staff has just congratulated Team VISCOM for a very good output for the month of May. I hope that this will continue, and my congratulations to the different Joint Task Forces and all the units supporting the JTF Spear and JTF Storm as they continue to step up on their internal security operations.”

The AGI is a management tool for assessing whether the AFP units were able to accomplish their respective mission; ensure a high level of morale and welfare and discipline of troops; strengthen leadership; and guarantee the effective and efficient utilization of government resources, that will identify how they effectively carry out their organizational objectives.
