As a credible joint force that ensures internal security and stability in the Visayas region, Visayas Command remains steadfast in its commitment to protect and secure the communities from the nefarious acts of the Communist NPA Terrorist that hinder peace and development in the region.
On November 23, combined troops under the 803rd Infantry Brigade of Joint Task Force Storm encountered 40 CPP-NPA terrorists under the Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee (EVRPC) at Brgy Imelda, Las Navas, Northern Samar, the same terrorist group responsible for the Dorillo village attack in the adjacent town of Jipapad, Eastern Samar that resulted to the wounding of a 10-year old civilian and two (2) soldiers, destruction of civilian properties, and the killing of another two (2) soldiers who were securing and monitoring the implementation of government projects in the area.
The firefight lasted for an hour and resulted to the death of six (6) NPA terrorists and the recovery of 18 firearms comprised of one (1) Cal. 60 machine gun; ten (10) M16 rifles; one (1) M4 assault rifle; one (1) AK 47 rifle; one (1) M14 rifle; two (2) Bushmaster assault rifles, and two (2) M653. Likewise, several personal belongings and war materiel were also recovered by the government troops after the encounter.
As such, VISCOM commends the government troops involved for their unwavering commitment in accomplishing our mandate of securing the people in this part of the country and free them from the clutches of the CPP – NPA terrorists.
We call on the people of Las Navas, Northern Samar not to panic. Your government troops are here to protect you from any harm brought about by CPP – NPA terrorists.
Likewise, we reaffirm our call to the few remaining members of the communist NPA terrorists. This might be your best chance to lay down your arms, abandon your armed struggle, and return to the folds of the law. We will not stop until this part of the country is free from your terroristic acts. We will not let a single stone unturned. We will hit you hard. (VICTOR BALDEMOR RUIZ)
