Iniligtas ng mga tauhan ng 54th Infantry Battalion ang isang sugatang New People’s Army (NPA) leader na inabandona ng kanyang mga kasamahang tumatakas sa Sitio Belbel, Brgy. Namal, Asipulo, Ifugao kahapon.
Kinilala ni Northern Luzon Command Lt. Gen. Ernesto Torres Jr., ang sugatan na si alias “Junel”, ang Vice Commanding Officer ng Front Operational Command, ng Guerilla Front AMPIS na nag- o-operate sa Abra, Mountain Province, at Ilocos Sur.
Si alyas Junel ay nagtamo ng sugat sa engkwentro kamakalawa, at natagpuan ng mga sundalo na agaw-buhay kahapon, matapos abandonahin sa bundok ng kaniyang mga nagsitakas na kasamahan.
Agad itong binigyan ng first aid ng mga tropang nagsasagawa ng pursuit operations at dinala sa pinakamalapit na ospital.
Ayon kay Lt. Gen. Torres, ipinakita ng mga sundalo sa kanilang aksyon ang pagrespeto sa buhay at maayos na pagtrato sa kalaban, alinsunod sa International Humanitarian Law.
“That even amidst the conflict and even if we are treated as enemies due to the manipulation of the leadership of the CTGs, the defenders of the North will remain committed to our genuine desire to extend the arm of peace for those who are willing to surrender and return to the fold of the law,” said Lt.
