In a significant law enforcement action, the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) Joint Task Force Poseidon (JTF POSEIDON), led by the Naval Intelligence Security Group-Western Mindanao (NISG-WM) in coordination with the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU-9) and Zamboanga City Police Station 11 (ZCPS11), conducted a successful anti-illegal drug buy-bust operation the other day.
The operation took place at General Vicente Street, Barangay Zone IV, Zamboanga City, and resulted in the arrest of Husein Arip Tagayan, also known as “Langgung,” a 52-year-old male resident of Serantes Street, Walled City, Jolo, Sulu. Tagayan is identified as a high-value individual involved in illegal drug trade.
Despite the success of the operation, the primary target known as @Jonathan, along with other associates, managed to evade arrest following an exchange of gunfire with the operating troops. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties among the law enforcement personnel.
During the operation, authorities seized the following items: one vacuum-sealed plastic pack containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu, weighing approximately one kilogram and with an estimated market value of P6,800,000; one plastic tea pack labeled “Qing Shan” (green) used as a container; a red plastic cellophane and a paper bag containing one genuine P1,000 marked money bill and 699 pieces of counterfeit P1,000 bills.
The seized drugs were transported to the Regional Forensic Unit 9 for further examination, while the arrested suspect was taken to the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) detention facility for documentation and safekeeping.
A hot pursuit operation is currently underway by the RDEU-9 in collaboration with the task force to apprehend the remaining suspects involved.
The successful operation underscores the ongoing commitment of NFWM and its partner agencies in combating illegal drug activities and ensuring the safety and security of the community.
