IN the wake of shooting incidents in schools and minors being caught in possession of firearms, a college freshman in Cebu ended up being arrested and charged after he allegedly made a bomb joke.
The student, aged 20, reportedly joked that there could be a bomb in his bag, while he was undergoing inspection at the entrance gate of his school at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
“Basi naay bomba diha, mubuto,” the student reportedly said which, if translated to English, means, ‘there could be a bomb there, it could explode.”
Said pronouncement was taken seriously by the security guard concerned, amid tightened security measures being implemented in the school premises recently.
Reportedly, the incident was immediately reported to the Student Affairs Office and the dean himself reported the matter to the police.
The student was turned over to tje police for proper disposition.
Bomb jokes are a violation of Presidential Decree No. 1727, which penalizes the malicious dissemination of false information concerning bombs and other explosives.
