SND MEETS US SENATOR SCOTT

Secretary of National Defense (SND) Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. the other day, held a bilateral meeting with US Senator Richard Lynn “Rick” Scott to reaffirm the importance of the strong and enduring partnership between the Philippines and the US.

According to DND spokesperson, Director Arsenio Andolong, the meeting provided an opportunity to explore avenues for economic cooperation within the defense sector and maritime security collaboration, underscoring the commitment of both nations to strengthen the alliance.

Recalling his previous discussion with US Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III, Secretary Teodoro reiterated the significance of the Philippines-US bilateral relations, emphasizing that it extends far beyond a mere security alliance.


Echoing the pronouncements made by the President on the renewed bilateral friendship, Secretary Teodoro underlined the importance of mutual cooperation by enhancing defense interoperability and fostering economic collaboration.

The defense Secretary emphasized the necessity of capability upgrades for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to establish deterrence and maintain a credible defense posture. The Secretary stressed the importance of the capability to absorb and sustain acquired assets, as well as preparedness for asymmetric warfare.


Secretary Teodoro also expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering assistance provided by the US during the recent onslaught of Typhoon Egay, demonstrating the alliance’s capability to provide support in times of crisis. This support exemplified the efficacy of joint efforts and highlighted the spirit of cooperation between the Philippines and the US.
