FOR the fourth time, Shariff Aguak Mayor Akmad Mitra Ampatuan survived an attempt on his life, this time with the use of a grenade launcher.
President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. condememned the attack and ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
In a press conference, Usec. Claire Castro said the Philippine National Police and the Department of Interior and Local Government have been directed to conduct the probe and bring the suspects to justice.
In a CCTV footage, one of the suspects aboard a white van disembarked, already armed with a grenade launcher and then fired at the black SUV carrying Ampatauan as it was turning right to a street in Barangay Poblacion.
While his two escorts were wounded, the mayor suffered very minor injuries only, since the vehicle they were in was armored.
Reportedly, the said ambush was already the fourth. The first was in 2010 in the Guindulungan town of Maguindanao del Sur, while the other two were in 2014 and 2019 in Shariff Aguak.
Because of these, Ampatuan begam using armored vehicles.
