MATAPOS isnabin ang pagdinig ng Senate Committee on Foreign Relations tungkol sa One China policy, ipina-subpoena ni Senador Erwin Tulfo nitong Huwebes ang mga opisyal ng Department of National Defense (DND).
Inihain ni Tulfo ang mosyon dahil hindi makakuha ang mga senador ng konkretong sagot sa kanilang mga tanong tungkol sa posisyon ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas sa One China policy at kung gagalangin ba ang Mutual Defense Treaty ng Estados Unidos sakaling magkaroon ng sigalot sa Taiwan Strait.
Ang mosyon na inaprubahan ng komite ay ipapadala kay Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero upang maihain ang subpoena sa mga opisyal ng DND.
Iniimbitahan si Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr. sa pagdinig nitong Huwebes, ngunit walang kinatawan mula sa DND na dumalo para maging kinatawan niya.
Bagaman naroon si Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro sa pagdinig, limitado ang kanyang mga pahayag sa usaping diplomasiya.
“We deserve to know. How can we proceed? The [DFA] Secretary’s having a hard time trying to answer these questions, when it is not in her territory. Only the Defense Department and the Armed Forces of the Philippines can answer all these questions,” ani Tulfo.
“Ito bang EDCA buhay na? May mga tao na ba diyan? Bakit hindi pa nakatulong sa relief, humanitarian efforts? So I guess, Madam Chair, may I suggest that we subpoena the officials of the Department of National Defense and the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” dagdag pa niya.
