Secretary of National Defense Gilberto Teodoro, Jr. and AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner, Jr. visited key naval facilities in Oyster Bay in Palawan on September 12, 2024, to assess ongoing infrastructure developments critical to enhancing the country’s external defense posture.
According to Col Xerxes Trinidad Armed Forces of the Philippine Public Information Office chief, this facility, along with projects in Balabac, are part of the priority projects instructed by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to be fasttracked in order to bolster the Philippines’ external defense capabilities.
Balabac is pegged as a future forward operating base for the Philippine Air Force, which will significantly extend the nation’s air defense capabilities, Col Trinidad said.
The visit reinforces the Department of National Defense and AFP’s commitment to enhancing the Philippines’ military infrastructure and ensuring the nation’s sovereignty is protected amidst evolving security challenges, the AFP PIO commander said.
