A self-funded karate team comprising of a total of 18 athletes bagged 28 gold medals, six silver and one bronze at the 6th Yogyakarta Open Tournament 2026 International Karate Do Championship in Indonesia.
The delegation was headed by Sensei Jonas Ragenil and Coach Sensei Nharvel Rahinil and the competing athletes were 18 in all— five from the Iba, Zambales and 13 from Bataan. The team, it was learned, received financial support from the provincial government.
Rahinil said about 4,000 players participated in the tournament that began on August 28, 2026.
The Philippine delegation was composed of players from the Bataan Ragenil Karate Do Club and the team from Zambales were from the Shorin Strike Karate Do Association.
The players who won and the medals they reaped are as follows: Boys- Liam Drebb Armada, silver and bronze; Charles Ayden Perez, Gold and Silver and Aedan Kyro Ventura, the youngest at eight years old who is also a Double Gold medalist at the last Selection Game for Japan Karate Championship held on May 23, 2026 at the Vista Mall in Bataan).
The girls who won double bronze medal are Ma. Athena Bucsit and Janyl Pamoleras.
