RP LOGS 22 RAPE CASES DAILY;PH-MADE PIATTOS BAGS AWARD IN INDONESIA

A news broadcast from “24 Oras” saying at least 22 rape cases are being reported in the Philippines every day from January 1 to November 13 this year is quite alarming. According to the said report, a total of 7,197 rape cases were monitored in the country during the said period. The figures are said to be lower than that recorded in 2021. What is even more appaling is what Dr. Lilian Gui, a registered psychologist and play therapist, had said— that most of the rape suspects are related to the victims including their fathers, uncles, and other relatives.

“I have also worked with perpetrators. They feel no guilt kasi sa tingin nila ito ay tama, ito ang dapat masunod, ako ang padre de pamilya,” Gui was quoted as having said. The Philippine National Police Region Office (PRO) in Region 11 had said that 413 rape cases were recorded in Davao Region alone.

The highest incidence was in Davao City where 123 cases were monitored. Of the number, 94 have minors as victims.

It was also recorded that at least 90 percent of the rape incidents took place in the victims’ residences and involved their relatives.

“Ang magandang indication nito is that naglakas ng loob ang ating mga rape victims to report the matter. That’s why ibig sabihin effective ang ating program especially on women’s desk program natin,” PRO11 spokesperson Police Major Eudisan Gultiano was quoted as having said.
