Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City – Amid the implementation of the election gun ban, a barangay official handed over his loose firearms to the military in Tawi-Tawi just the other day.

Soldiers of the 312th Marine Company, Marine Battalion Landing Team 12 facilitated the surrender of one M1 Garand and one Colt Cal .45 owned by Mr. Dalhadi Mukahil, Barangay Chairman of Mandulan, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.

According to Brig. Gen. Romeo Racadio, Commander of Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi, marine personnel conducted a dialogue with the barangay officials and constituents of Barangay Mandulan to encourage the citizens to lay their unregistered firearms or apply for License to Own and Possess Firearm (LTOPF).

The surrendered loose firearms were turned over to the 312MC for safekeeping and proper disposition.

Maj. Gen. Steve Crespillo, Commander of Western Mindanao Command, commended Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi for the consistent community engagement and initiative in conducting assembly meetings and security forums in the barangays of Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, which turned out to be an effective means at eradicating crimes and terroristic activities in the area.

“Rest assured that we will continue to bolster our operations to ensure the safety and security of the people. We are also coordinating with our partners to ensure the honest and orderly conduct of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections come October 30,” Maj. Gen. Crespillo stated.
