On two consecutive occasions before the weekend, he went to Manila to carry out his distribution of rice subsidy to ‘Pantawid Pamilya Households’, along with our beloved Mayor Honey Lacuna.
A total of 1,000 beneficiaries reeived 25 kilos of rice each and the said event was attended by members of the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Central and NCR Offices as well as our own Manila Department of Social Welfare personnel under Re Fugoso.
With this gesture, it was clear that he had really put politics behind and is moving forward to having a nation that is no longer divided by politics.
It is a known fact that Mayor Honey did not run and win her landslide victory under the President’s ticket in 2022 and yet, President Marcos was respectful enough to invite her to his rice distribution activity which we all know is something close to his heart.
The fact that he had also chosen Manila as among the first beneficiaries of the said program is something that we in the city government are likewise thankful for and because of this, we return the gesture by also supporting his worthwhile projects.
Among these is the move to strictly monitor the prices of rice being sold in the public markets.
As soon as President Marcos ordered the close monitoring of rice prices amid reports that there are some unscrupulous traders who have been unjustly hoarding rice and increasing its prices, Mayor Honey immediately directed those in charge to make sure that all public markets in the city are in compliance with the President’s direcitve.
In fact, she even created a task force to carry out the price monitoring pursuant to Malacanang’s marching orders to put a stop to the hoarders and undue rice price increases.
A good number of rice rice dealers are operating in Manila and in view of this, the city government’s support for the Presidential directive indeed counts a lot.
Just like President Marcos, Mayor Honey is also of the belief that politics must be set aside once elections are over.
As the head of the country’s capital and host to the seat of power which is Malacanang, our mayor has directed us, her city officials, to do everything possible to work hand-in-hand with the national government.
Well, to us, there is no point in not supporting the President just because we did not belong to the same political party during the last elections.
The people have spoken and chosen a leader. We all should respect that and all those sitting in government, whether appointed or elected, must throw their support to the sitting President.
We should all bear in mind that working against the President for the sake of politicking will do the country no good. If the President fails, the entire country fails. We all fail.
Besides, President Marcos had been doing a good job so far. If his administration succeeds, the country will certainly benefit. Who in his right mind would not want that?
