PRESIDENT FERDINAND MARCOS, JR., A REAL STATESMAN

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has shown to one and all that indeed, he leads by example.

This became evidently clear when he, pursuant to his repeated calls for unity, recently met with Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor John Marvin Yul Servo-Nieto in Malacanang.

Mayor Honey brought with her all the duly-elected city officials consisting of six Congressmen and 37 members of the Manila City Council. They are all members of our local party Asenso Manileno which made a clean sweep of all elective positions in the May polls.

It is undeniable that during the May elections, the Asenso Manileno supported the candidacy of then Mayor Isko Moreno but once the polls are over, Mayor Isko was the first to concede, even calling on his supporters to accept the results that President Marcos, Jr. had won and for them support the new President so that the country may move forward as one and fast.

Pursuant to this and the repeated calls made by the President for unity, all elected officials in the city now being led by the first lady mayor of Manila, Honey Lacuna, have thrown support for the new President of the Republic.

This they concretized by paying President Marcos, Jr. a courtesy visit. The meeting was not only very cordial but was also marked by an exchange of pleasantries.

President Bongbong Marcos, Jr. or PBBM for brevity, warmly welcomed Mayor Honey and her party and even acknowledged the need for the national and local governments to work hand-in-hand in order to achieve greater heights. He also cited the role that LGUs play in the success of the national government since they are the ones that are constantly and directly in contact with the grassroots.

Considering that Malacanan Palace is in Manila, PBBM told Mayor Honey that he is now considering himself as a constituent of Manila.

This brought smiles on the faces of all the local officials present, as they also expressed full support for all the programs that the President had lined up, specially those where Manilans in general stand to benefit.

Mayor Honey shared with the President the fact that the city government is doing everything possible to deliver all sorts of aid under its Social Amelioration Program, which provides financial assistance via monthly cash allowances, for senior citizens, solo parents, PWDs (persons with disability) and Grade 12 Senior High School students in all public schools in the city, as well as college students from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and the Universidad de Manila.

This is apart from the operation of the city’s 44 health centers and six hospitals –one per district—providing free medical services to the residents and sometimes, even non-residents.

Mayor Honey humbly asked for the President’s guidance and help on how the local government can further improve the services it already delivers to its people and even extended an invitation for future special events and activities in Manila.

We in the Manila local government are hoping that the said meeting between PBBM and our local officials will be the start of a mutually beneficial relationship for the sake of our constituency.

The President can rest assure that we all will be here to support his worthwhile projects, as already stated by our good mayor herself.

With residents in Manila numbering at least two million, we are also hopeful that we can be included in the national government’s list of priorities, specially considering that Manila is the capital city of the country.

After all, we all know that where Manila goes, the whole country goes.
