ERNEST John ‘EJ’ Obiena arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on Sunday after he won gold during the ongoing 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
Obiena clinched the Philippines’ first gold medal of the 2023 Asian Games, handily winning the men’s pole vault finals on Saturday September 30,2023
Obiena, the silver medallist and the only Asian man to have jumped 6.00 metres, was unmatched by the field, being the only athlete to clear at 5.75m on Saturday night (30 September) at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium.
He was welcomed by the Philippine sports officials and his family.
