Bilang paggalang sa International Criminal Court (ICC) , nakahanda ang Pilipinas na ibigay ang kinakailangan na impormasyon sa muling pagbabalik ng imbestigasyon sa drug on war ng nakalipas na administrasyon.
Gayunman,iginiit ni Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla na hindi ito nangangahulugan na kinikilala na ng Pilipinas ang hurisdiksiyon ng ICC sa Imbestigasyon sa illegal drug war dahil patuloy pa namang kumikilos ang justice system sa bansa.
“When you withdraw from the ICC and you cease to become a member, then what activities can they hold in your country that will be sanctioned by your country as a treaty participant? Since you’re no longer a treaty participant, you are no longer part of the ICC. So it’s just logical that if you’re not part of the ICC, the activities of the ICC will cease as far as your country is concerned,” ayon kay Remulla sa kanyang unang press conference bilang Kalihim ng DOJ.
” The jurisdiction issue then comes in, because if they want to conduct an activity, discussion has to be sanctioned by the Philippine government. But since we are no longer a member of the ICC, then what activities can be sanctioned when we’re no longer part of the organization? So I think it’s just practical and it’s just logical, unless you withdraw from the treaty. Then everything else of course, would cease to exist, ” dagdag ni Remulla.
Matatandaan na noong nakalipas na Disyembre ,ini-anunsiyo ng ICC na sinususpinde nila ang imbestigasyon sa kampanya laban sa iligal na droga para i-asses ang deferral letter-request mula sa Philippine Ambassador sa.the Netherlands.
Ang naturang letter-request, na may petsang Nobyembre 10,2021, ay nagpapahayag na iniimbestigahan ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas ang umano’y mga krimen.
Gayunman, noong nakalipas na buwan,hiniling ni Prosecutor Karim Khan sa ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I sa pamamagitan ng 53-page application, na ibalik na ang imbestigasyon sa Pilipinas. Bilang tugon, inatasan ng ICC ang gobyerno ng Pilipinas na sumagot sa plea ni Khan.
Una nang isinailalim ng taga- rebisa ng DOJ ang may 5,655 anti-drug operations na nagresulta sa pagkamatay para malaman kung nasampahan ng kaao ang mga puli na sangkot sa pangyayri. (Anthony Quindoy)
