BILANG paghahanda na rin sa pagpapalakas ng external defense ng bansa, lumikha ang Philippine Marines ng Shore-Based Anti-Ship Missile (SBASM) Battalion.
Pinangunahan ni MGen. Nestor C. Herico PN(M), Commandant, Philippine Marine Corps, ang activation ng Shore Based Anti-Ship Missile (SBASM) Battalion (Provisional) sa PMC Headquarters.
Ang Shore-based missile system (SBMS) ay mahalagang bahagi ng isang matatag na coastal defense system sa hangaring ma-isulong ang maritime security habang nasa defensive posture.
Ang SBMS ay magsisilbing tugon sa kakulangan at kahinaan sea control, anti-access/area-denial (A2/AD), at coastal and island defense operations base sa PHIL. Navy Active Archipelagic Defense Strategy and PMC Archipelagic Coastal Defense Concept.
Ang SBASM Battalion, ang kauna unahan sa hanay ng Philippine Marine Corps ay patatakbuhin ang isa sa best anti-ship missile systems sa buong mundo.
Madali nitong made-detect, sundan at habulin at wasakin ang kanilang target. Umaasa ang PMC na makukuha na nila ang coastal battery sa susunod na taon mula BrahMos Aerospace Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi (BAPL).

Hinamon ni Mgen Herico, ang bagong talagang Commanding Officer ng SBASM Battalion, na si Lt. Col. Miguel P. Perez PN(M), na sanayin ang mga Marines sa ilalim ng kanyang command at hasain ang newest cutting edge ng AFP.
“You will be striking the first hammer blow in forging the ‘newest cutting edge’ system of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in terms of territorial defense,” dagdag pa ng opisyal.
