Forty-eight legislative staff and employees of the Philippine Senate are now part of the Philippine Navy (PN) reserve force upon completing the Basic Citizen Military Course (BCMC) Class 10-24 on June 4, 2024 at the Navy Headquarters.

This was after their celebrated graduation rites with Senator Robin Padilla as the Guest of Honor and Speaker who also welcomed them as members of the Philippine Navy (PN) reserve force.

Philippine Navy Flag Officer In Command, Vice Adm. Toribio Adaci Jr., oversaw the graduation ceremony along with Naval Reserve Command (NRC) Commander, Marine Major Gen. Joseph Ferrous Cuison, whose leadership has been instrumental in the successful implementation of the BCMC program.

“We really appreciate you joining the Philippine Navy at this time when our country is facing formidable challenges in our maritime environment. This is a time for us to reinvigorate our nationalism, our patriotism, and unite and fight for a common cause,” said Vice Adm. Adaci, Jr.

According to Adaci, Jr., the BCMC program aims to instill a sense of discipline and patriotism among participants that will equip them with the skills necessary for national defense. It also prepares them to respond effectively to potential disasters and contribute to national resilience.

With the example set by the 48 new Senate reservists, Sen. Padilla expressed his hope for more Filipinos, especially the youth, to develop a deeper sense of love for the country.

“Nakita namin ang idinulot na maganda ng training na ito. Inaasahan namin na kayong lahat, ang nakuha niyong mga ranggo at bandila ng Pilipinas, ay maging simbolo upang makumbinsi natin ang mga kabataan na tumindig din,” said Sen. Padilla, as he encouraged the new reservists to inspire the youth.

“This momentous feat reflects the PN’s resolve to develop a robust reserve force by recruiting and training individuals from different sectors. The graduates of BCMC Class 10–24 now stand as proof of the successful collaboration between the military and civilian sectors, embodying the spirit of service and commitment to the country’s safety and security,” he added.
