MANAMA, Bahrain – The Philippine Navy assumes command of a multinational counter-piracy task force during a Change of Command ceremony Monday, August 21 at the U.S. Navy base here.
Philippine Navy Captain Mateo Carido relieves Republic of Korea Navy Rear Admiral Ko Seung-bum as Commander of Combined Task Force (CTF) 151, one of five operational task forces under Combined Maritime Forces, a multi-national naval partnership of 38 nations, which promotes security, stability and prosperity across approximately 3.2 million square miles of international waters, encompassing some of the world’s most important shipping lanes.
Prior his assumption, Captain Carido was the Philippines Senior National Representative, now he is leading his team composed of seven (7) Philippine Navy officers supported by 11 Officers and two Enlisted Personnel from 13 CMF member countries.
During the ceremony, the CMF Deputy Commander, Commodore Philip Dennis, welcomed Capt Carido as the new Commander of CTF 151. “Today, the Republic of the Philippines makes history, taking command of CTF151 for the very first time.” He also expressed his confidence that the task force under the leadership of Capt. Carido will continue to excel in their duties and contribute significantly to the accomplishment of the CMF mission.
He likewise acknowledged the accomplishments of ROK Navy whose tenure has been marked by achievements and notable contributions to the CMF, setting a remarkable example for the next leadership.
In his remarks, Capt Carido said “The Philippine Navy’s mere presence here is a manifestation of our unwavering commitment to maintaining maritime security recognizing the importance of coordination and collaboration to be able to address emerging maritime threats in the region.”
In attendance during the event is the Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Her Excellency Anne Jalando-on Louis, and also, the Commander of Naval Forces Western Mindanao, Rear Admiral Donn Anthony Miraflor, representing the Flag Officer In Command, Philippine Navy, Vice Admiral Toribio Adaci, Jr., and the Commander of Fleet-Marine Ready Force, Brig. General Edwin Amadar, and other distinguished Filipino visitors.
The Philippine Navy will be in command of the CTF 151 until January 2024.
