Nakumpleto na ng BRP Teresa Magbanua ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) ang siyam na araw na maritime patrol sa bisinidad ng Bajo de Masinloc.
Nabatid na Pebrero 1, 2024 nang i-deploy ng PCG ang naturang barko sa lugar, alinsunod sa kautusan ni PCG commandant, CG Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, upang tiyakin ang kaligtasan ng mga mangingisdang Pinoy at protektahan sila sa anumang harassment.
Anang PCG, “The Philippines has sovereignty over Bajo De Masinloc and its territorial sea, and sovereign rights and jurisdiction over the surrounding waters falling within the Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) as measured from the Philippine archipelagic baselines, in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2016 Arbitral Award.”
“The activities of the Filipino fisherfolk and of the PCG in the area are consistent with national laws and the Philippines’ position on the West Philippine Sea (WPS),” anito pa.
Iniulat rin naman ng PCG na sa panahon ng pagpapatrulya ng BRP Teresa Magbanua ay namonitor at nasuportahan nila ang kabuuang 100 mangingisdang Pinoy, na lulan ng 14 na bangkang pangisda.
Napagkalooban rin nila ang mga ito ng mga food packs at groceries bilang tulong sa kanilang pangingisda sa lugar.
Iniulat rin ng PCG na sa loob ng siyam na araw nilang pagpapatrulya, aabot sa apat na Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) vessels na may bow numbers na 3105, 3302, 3063, at 3064 ang kanilang namataan sa Bajo de Masinloc.
Anang PCG, “These CCG vessels shadowed the PCG vessel on more than 40 occasions, with the closest distance being 176 meters from its side.”
Dagdag pa nito, “The CCG vessels performed dangerous and blocking maneuvers at sea against BRP Teresa Magbanua four times, with the CCG vessels crossing the bow of the PCG vessel twice, recklessly disregarding the “Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea”(COLREGS) once again.”
Bukod dito, naobserbahan rin umano ng PCG vessel ang presensiya ng apat na Chinese Maritime Militia vessels sa lugar.
Paniniguro naman ng PCG, “Nevertheless, the PCG vessel professionally engaged both the CCG and CMM vessels through radio reiterating the clear and principled position of the Philippines in accordance with international law.”
Tiniyak rin naman ng PCG sa publiko na mananatili silang nakatuon sa kanilang commitment sa Pangulo at sa mga mamamayan sa pagtiyak sa kaligtasan at kapakanan ng mga mangingisdang Pinoy.
