FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army’s champion boxer Pfc. Charly Suarez joined exemplary athletes and artists who were feted by President and Commander-in-Chief Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., for bringing honor to the country in a courtesy call at the Malacañang Palace the other day.

“Thank you very much for the honor that you have brought to the country and the enjoyment that you give to so many people,” President Marcos remarked. The president cited the huge sporting potential of the Philippines which can produce world-class athletes through dedication, constant training, and proper coaching.

It can be recalled that Pfc. Suarez outmatched Australian boxer Paul Fleming during their March 15, 2023 bout in New South Wales, Australia. He snagged four belts in the said match including the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental, World Boxing Association (WBA) Oceania, World Boxing Council Asia, and the International Boxing Organization Intercontinental belts.

Pfc. Suarez’s most recent victory added to the growing list of belts under his name which also includes the WBA Asia Super Featherweight belt, World Super Featherweight belt, and IBF Asia Super Featherweight belt. The 34-year-old Army boxer is eyeing to clinch a world boxing championship belt in the near term.
