Inihayag ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) na diringgin nito ang petisyong humihiling na i-diskuwalipika ang service provider na Smartmatic mula sa isasagawang bidding sa pagbili ng mga makinarya at bagong automated election system (AES) na gagamitin para sa halalang idaraos sa taong 2025.
Sa isang Viber message sa mga mamamahayag, sinabi ni Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia na itatakda pa lamang nila ang pormal na pagdinig sa naturang petisyon na nagpapa-diskuwalipika sa Smartmatic mula sa Comelec procurement.
Nabatid naman mula kay Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco na ang tinutukoy ni Garcia ay ang petisyong inihain nina dating Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) chief Eliseo MIjares Rio Jr., Augusto Cadelina Lagman, Franklin Fayloga Ysaac, at Leonardo Olivera Odono.
Ang naturang petisyon na inihain noong Hulyo 15, 2023, ay may titulong “In the Matter of the Petition to Review the Qualifications of Smartmatic Philippines, Inc. as a Prospective Bidder in View of its Failure in the 2022 Elections to Comply with Certain Minimum System Capabilities that Resulted in Serious and Grave Irregularities in the Transmission and Receipt of Election Returns and, if warranted, to Disqualify Smartmatic from Participating in the Bidding for the 2025 Automated Election System.”
“Bilang bahagi ng due process under the COMELEC Rules of Procedures, as amended, ay bibigyang utos ng COMELEC en banc ang Respondent Smartmatic na mag-comment sa naturang Petition at isumite ito sa COMELEC sa pamamagitan ng Clerk of the Commission bago ang pagdinig na itinakda sa susunod na linggo,” mensahe pa ni Laudiangco.
Ani Laudiangco, iaanunsiyo na lamang nila ang eksaktong petsa ng pagdinig sa mga darating na araw.
