PAGBAGO SA IMPEACHMENT RULES, ASAHAN — REP. JOEL CHUA

By: Jerry S. Tan

“We will receive inputs from the complainants, some of whom are now members of the House,” ani Chua na nagsabing maari ding magbago ang bumubuo ng prosecution team.

“While i do not agree with the Supreme Court decision, we will abide by it because as a laywer, I am an officer of the court and swore to respect and uphold our system anchored on the rule of law,”pahayag ni Chua.

“This statement reflects my personal view as a member of the House and is not the collectuve position of the entire House of Representatives or the panel of prosecutors,” dagdag pa nito.

Sa isang en banc decision noong July 25, 2025, idineklar ng SC ang Articles of Impeachment laban kay Duterte bilang unconstitutional, “noting that it is barred by the one-year rule under Article XI, Section 3(5) of the Constitution and that it violates the right to due process enshrined in the Bill of Rights.”

“The Senate could not acquire jurisdiction over the impeachment proceedings. However, the Court said it is not absolving the Vice President from any of the charges against her, but any subsequent impeachment complaint may only be filed starting February 6, 2026,” saad pa sa ruling.
