ALINSUNOD sa direktiba ni President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. na palakasin ang anti-smuggling at anti-illegal drug efforts, nadakip ng Bureau of Customs – Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) ang isang dayuhang may dalang P55.3 milyong halaga ng shabu sa Arrival Area ng Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.
Ang hinuli nitong February 13, 2026 ay isang German national na dumating sa isang connecting flight mula Addis Ababa. Na-detect sa X-ray Inspection Project (XIP) ang irregular images sa routine non-intrusive baggage screening at sa isinagawang pagsusuri ng Customs examiners, nadiskubre ang white crystalline substances na nakatago sa false compartment ng baggage lining at nakalagay sa dalawang ‘hollowed-out Bible books’ na nakabalot ng maraming layers ng plastic at duct tape.
Ang mga nakumpiskang shabu ay tumitimbang ng 8,145 grams at nagkakahalaga ng ?55,386,000.
Ang operation ay isinagawa ng BOC-NAIA katulong ang Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force (CAIDTF), NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group at Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). Ang pasahero at mga nasabat na items ay ibinigay sa PDEA para sa imbestigasyon at inquest proceedings para sa paglabag sa Republic Act No. 9165 at Republic Act No. 10863.
Ayon kay BOC Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno, ang nasabing operasyon ay patunay ng patuloy na ‘enforcement posture’ sa lahat ng ports of entry.
“We are tightening our controls through technology, intelligence, and inter-agency coordination. Our message is clear—attempts to bring illegal drugs into the country will be detected, intercepted and prosecuted,” ani Nepomuceno.
Binigyang-diin ni BOC-NAIA District Collector Atty. Yasmin Mapa ang kritikal na papel ng teknolohiya sa frontline enforcement.
“The successful interception demonstrated the effectiveness of the XIP and the Bureau’s layered examination process, the Bureau’s examination process in detecting concealed contraband and enabling prompt enforcement action,” ani Mapa.
