NASA mahigit P1.4 bilyong halaga ng smuggled na sigarilyo ang nakumpiska ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) katuwang ang Armed Forces of the Philippine Western Mindanao Command, ayon kay Retired General Juvymax Uy , Bureau of Customs – Intelligence Group (BOC-IG) Deputy Commissioner sa isang warehouse sa lalawigan ng Sulu.
Ang nasabing warehouse ay unang inireport sa Intelligence Group ng BOC na pinamumunuan ni Director Verne Enciso kung saan itinatago ang libo-libong smuggled na sigarilyo.
“Remember that this happened in Sulu, in Indanan. Yet, despite how far Mindanao is from us, we made sure that distance won’t stop us from serving the LOA,”ani Uy .
Nabatid na agad na nagpalabas ng Letter of Authority na pirmado ni Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio kaya’t isinailalim sa inspeksyon ang warehouse.
Dito ay nakita ng mga otoridad ang nasa 18,533 kahon ng mga imported na sigarilyo na kinabibilangan ng Bravo, New Far, BPBM, Billionaire, Cannon, Souvenir, Astro, Wilcon, New D’ Premier, B&E Ice at Fort.
Agad na kinumpiska ng BOC ang mga nasabing sigarilyo at inaaalam na kung paano ito nakarating ng bansa.
Sinabi naman ni Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence Group Juvymax Uy, isa lamang ito sa mga hakbang ng Customs na mapigilan ang pagpasok o pagbebenta ng mga smuggled na produkto kung saan kahit na may kalayuan tulad ng Sulu, hindi sila titigil upang mapanagot ang mga gumagawa ng iligal.
“Our success in conducting our enforcement operations anywhere in the country is attributed to the streamlined procedures and coordination between all BOC offices, collection districts, and partner agencies,” pahayag naman ni Commissioner Rubio.
