Bureau of Immigration (BI) intelligence agents have arrested an Indian national who was found to have overstayed in the country for more than two years.

The foreigner, identified as Ajay Kumar, 21, was arrested in Barangay 1, Balangiga, Eastern Samar on September 22 by operatives of the BI Intelligence Division (ID) Regional Intelligence Operations Unit 8 and ID–Main Office, in coordination with the Balangiga Police Station.

BI intelligence division chief Fortunato ‘Jun’ Manahan said that Kumar arrived in the Philippines in July 2023 but failed to update his visa, thereby violating the country’s immigration laws.

Meanwhile, the BI also reported the arrest of two foreign nationals found to have derogatory records in Makati.

Manahan said BI-ID agents arrested Ye win Than, 30, Myanmar national and Liew Kok Hoo, 30, Malaysian national in a commercial building along Paseo de Roxas, Legazpi Village, Makati City.

The two were found to be working in a company in the area, but had derogatory records in the BI’s database.

Than is wanted by the BI after he was charged for deportation for working in a POGO company in the country. Meanwhile, Liew is the subject of a Hold Departure Order, and the National Bureau of Investigation confirmed that the subject is facing a criminal case related to illegal drugs.

A total of 16 other workers were sighted in the area, but all were found to have proper working visas and permits.

Kumar, Than and Liew were all brought to the BI’s facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig where they will remain while facing deportation proceedings.
