Troops from the Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM), under the 5th Infantry Division, apprehended three high-ranking members of the New People’s Army (NPA) affiliated with the Regional Guerilla Unit (RGU) of the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC) during a joint operation with the Philippine National Police (PNP) at Barangay Manag, Conner, Apayao.
Acting on information provided by a concerned citizen regarding the presence of armed CTG elements in the area, the troops swiftly conducted the operation and arrested the suspects identified by their aliases as Alias Sam, Commanding Officer of the Regional Sentro De Grabidad (RSDG) of the ICRC: Alias Tanya, Political Instructor: Alias Annie, Organizer and head of education of the weakened Guerilla Front, KLG Baggas.
During the operation, government forces seized two M16A1 rifles, hand grenades, several rounds of ammunition, explosives, mobile phones, data storage devices, medical supplies, and other personal belongings. These items are now in the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP) for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Lieutenant General Fernyl G. Buca PAF, Commander of NOLCOM, commended the troops for their prompt action and credited the success of the operation to the cooperation of the peace-loving residents of Barangay Manag, Conner, Apayao. Their timely information played a crucial role in the apprehension of the terrorists.
“This successful operation shows the strong partnership between our security forces and local communities. We encourage the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting our efforts to ensure peace and security in Northern Luzon,” Buca stated.
NOLCOM’s ground units have been directed to intensify patrols and operations in the area to prevent further insurgent activities and maintain the safety and security of the local population.
