SINUSPINDI ni Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno ang isang local port chief na natukoy na ama pala ng estudyanteng nasangkot sa pamamaril sa loob ng Ateneo de Zamboanga University nitong Martes ng umaga na nagbunga sa pagkasawi ng dalawang estudyante, kabilang na ang namaril.
Ayon sa pahayag ng BOC, kagyat umanong ipinag-utos ni Nepomuceno ang suspensiyon laban sa ESS District Commander ng Zamboanga City Port matapos makumpirmang ang mismong baril na inisyu sa kanya ng ahensiya ay ang siyang baril din na ginamit ng estudyante sa pamamaril.
Ang naturang port official ay sasailalim rin umano sa imbestigasyon upang matukoy ang kanyang posibleng pananagutan sa insidente.
Samantala, nagpaabot rin ng pakikidalamhati ang BOC sa pamilya at mga mahal sa buhay ng mga estudyanteng nasawi sa pamamaril.
“We stand in solidarity with the Ateneo de Zamboanga community and all those affected by this heartbreaking incident…Upon learning of the incident, Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno immediately ordered the relief and preventive suspension of the Customs Police personnel who owns the firearms allegedly used by the student involved, pending the results of a thorough investigation,” ayon sa pormal na pahayag ng BOC.
Kaugnay niyan ay inatasan ni Nepomuceno ang mga BOC Deputy Commissioners na kaagad magsagawa ng masusing imbestigasyon at mangalap ng mahahalagang dokumento, rekord, pahayag at iba pang ebidensiya na may kaugnayan sa insidente.
Iniatas din niya ang pagsasagawa ng isang komprehensibong accounting at imbentaryo ng lahat ng inisyung armas sa ahensiya at pagrepaso sa compliance sa lahat ng BOC policies at issuances sa gun safety, firearm custody, transport, carrying, storage at safekeeping.
“The Bureau has also instructed all concerned personnel to fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation by the proper authorities…Compliance reports from all concerned units have been required within 24 hours,” ayon pa sa BOC.
Dagdag pa nito: “The Bureau of Customs remains committed to accountability, transparency, and ensuring that all necessary measures are undertaken to prevent incidents of this nature from happening again.”
