Navy helps apprehend ASG member in Zamboanga City

NAVAL STATION JOSE ANDRADA, Manila – Philippine Navy (PN) intel operatives and special operations forces from Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) were instrumental in the successful arrest of Abu Sayyaf Group member in Bgy. Baliwasan, Zamboanga City .

Elements of Naval Special Operations Unit 6 and Naval Intelligence and Security Group-Western Mindanao, the lead intel unit of this operation, joined the interagency team who served the warrant of arrest for alias Yusop, a Sulu-based ASG member wanted for kidnapping for ransom and serious illegal detention.

This joint effort of NFWM, Joint Task Force Zamboanga, and PNP's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) will help the government in getting vital information about the Sulu-based ASG group, and its overall campaign in counterterrorism and national security.

It further highlights the Navy’s valuable support in joint law enforcement operations that fulfills its role in maintaining internal peace and security in the country. (VICTOR BALDEMOR RUIZ)
