Malacanang announced on Monday that Preident Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. has appointed Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. as the new Secretary of the Department of National Defense (DND) and Dr. Teodoro Herbosa as the new Secretary of the Department of Health (DOH).
The Presidential Communications Office stated that the appointments of Teodoro and Herbosa were announced after the President held separate meetings with the two, along with Defense Senior Undersecretary Carlito Galvez Health Undersecretary Ma. Rosario Vergeire. The meetings took place earlier on the same day.
Teodoro held the same post during the time of then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, during which he also served as head of the Office of Civil Defense in a concurrent capacity.
On the other hand, Herbosa was Health Undersecretary from 2010 to 2015. The DOH had been run by an officer-in-charge since Marcos assumed the Presidency.
Speculations on a possible reorganization and new appointments in the Marcos administration have been rife, as the prohibition on the appointment of losing candidates who ran in the 2022 polls ended on May 9, 2023.
