The Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) renewed its enduring partnership with leading fishing companies through the ceremonial signing of a new Memorandum of Agreement, reaffirming decades of collaboration aimed at safeguarding maritime security and supporting economic stability across the region.
The event was attended by fishing company owners, key stakeholders, and military officials, underscoring the collective commitment to securing the maritime domain of Western Mindanao.
Capt. Hilarion Cesista, Commander of NTF61 and Deputy Commander for Fleet Operations, delivered the welcome remarks, expressing gratitude for the strong turnout and continued support from the fishing industry.
He acknowledged the vital role these companies play in sustaining peace and order at sea, and emphasized the shared responsibility in protecting the nation’s waters.
The highlight of the ceremony was the address of Rear Adm Francisco Tagamolila, Jr. , Commander of NFWM, who underscored the significance of the partnership.
“The Philippine Navy is honored to sustain this long-standing partnership, which has proven its value over the years. Through the support of these fishing companies and the CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA-II), we have made significant progress in deterring piracy, combating illegal fishing, and strengthening Maritime Domain Awareness,” Tagamolila said.
The partnership began in July 1992, when proactive fishing companies sought the support of the CAA-II to address the growing threats at sea. Since then, it has contributed meaningfully to maritime security and food security in the region.
With the previous MOA having lapsed in July 2024, both parties recognized the importance of continuing this collaboration. The renewed MOA, valid for another three years, reaffirms the shared vision and mutual trust between NFWM and its civilian maritime partners.
The event concluded with a symbolic MOA signing, marking another milestone in the enduring cooperation between the Armed Forces and the fishing sector.
The Naval Forces Western Mindanao extends its sincere appreciation to all stakeholders for their unwavering support and looks forward to deepening this vital partnership in the years to come.
