TINAWAG ni Senadora Nancy Binay na “coercive, restrictive, at redundant” ang mga karagdagang dokumento hinggil sa bagong inilabas na guidelines ng Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking’s (IACAT) partikular sa mga unang beses palang na bibiyahe.
Sinabi ni Binay na kabilang dito ang paghingi ng ilang dokumento tulad ng confirmed round ticket, proof of accomodation at financial capacity sa mga self-funded travels.
Habang sa mga sponsored travels, inoobliga ng IACAT ang biyahero na magdala ng original PSA-issued birth o marriage certificate, confirmed round trip tickets at notarized copies of letter mula sa sponsor, valid work visa/permit at iba pa.
Sa halip, dapat tutukan na lamang aniya ng IACAT ang paggamit ng teknolohiya laban sa pagsugpo ng human trafficking.
“‘Yung technology naririyan para safe, secured and convenient ang mga pasahero. Malaking tulong din ang technology to curb human trafficking. Kung kaduda-duda talaga ang background ng byahero at kasamang biktima—that’s the time immigration people should do their jobs of cross-checking the info they have in their database and compare it to the claims of the person in question. Let’s maximize the use of information technology to correctly profile travelers,” paliwanag ni Binay.
Ipinunto pa niya na gumagamit ang mga Immigration officials ng ganitong mga kumbinasyon na mga pamamaraan at pamantayan upang matukoy ang biyahero kung magdudulot ng security risk.
“We all know that visa applications are all scrutinized for accuracy and consistency. Kapag medyo kaduda-duda ang impormasyong nakalagay, expect an outright rejection of your application. Ang dapat sigurong higpitan yung mga babyahe papunta sa countries na walang visa at mataas ang human trafficking cases—in this case, cross referencing is necessary to check the background of a particular traveler,” dagdag pa ng senadora.
