Chinese international tourism makes a strong comeback in Southeast Asia!

With China’s border reopening this year, Thai government recently announced that the country received one million Chinese tourists in the first five months of 2023. The excellent record number of tourists since China’s relaxed border policy translated to tourist spending of 446 billion baht ($13.18 billion) and a potential target of 5 million Chinese tourists for the year.

Southeast Asia has been the Chinese people’s top tourist destination since reopening, and have delivered many immediate benefits in the industry and people-to-people exchanges.

Earlier this year, President Xi Jinping and President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. have agreed to deepen people-to-people exchanges between our two countries in all respects.

The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) is targeting two million Chinese tourist arrivals once electronic visas are issued by the end of this year.

In the first five months, the Philippines received 75,000 Chinese tourists, reinvigorating many of the country’s world-class beaches and scenic landmarks.

It is hoped that China-Philippine people-to-people exchanges achieve the goals set by the leaders at an early date and even reach greater heights.

Our countries have been working together in the tourism industry, among many other sectors, and I hope it strengthens our relations and leads to greater mutual benefits in the future!
