ITO ang pinagbasehan ng Bureau of Customs para kumpiskahin sa Sorsogon ang bulto-bultong ukay-ukay o ‘used clothings’ at mga gamit nang sapatos na nasa humigit- kumulang sa P500,000.
Maliwanag umanong nilabag ng mga suspek ang Republic Act No. 4653, o “An Act to Safeguard the Health of the People and Maintain the Dignity of the Nation’ na nagdedeklara na isang ‘National Policy to Prohibit the Commercial Importation of Textile Articles Commonly Known as Ukay-ukay or Used Clothing and Rags.”
Sa ulat na sinumite sa tanggapan ni Custom Commissioner Yogi Filemon Ruiz , nasa 31 bulto (bales) ng ukay-ukay o used clothing at 10 bales ng ‘used shoes’ ang nasabat ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)- Sorsogon at dinala sa Bureau of Customs-Port of Legazpi.
Lulan ang mga nasabing kontrabando ng isang van nang masabat ito sa Matnog, Sorsogon, na nagmula Manila at dadalhin sana sa Catarman, Northern Samar.
Agad na inirekomenda ang pagpapalabas ng Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) para sa mga kargamento at sa sasakyang ginamit dahil sa paglabag sa Sections 118, 1113, and 1401 ng Republic Act (R.A.) 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
‘The operation was part of the Bureau of Customs’ continuing efforts to secure the country’s borders against the entry of prohibited goods,’ pahayag ni Acting Customs District Collector Arthur Sevilla, Jr. kasabay ng pagpuri sa PCG-Sorsogon sa kanilang suporta sa nasabing joint operation.
