ISANG joint intelligence driven operation ang inilunsad ng mga ahente ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) na nagresulta sa pagkakasabat sa isang oil tanker na may kargang humigit kumulang sa P219.5 milyon na halaga ng smuggled fuel ayon kay Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence Group Juvymax Uy.
Batay sa ulat, nagsagawa ng intelligence at enforcement operations ang BOC Customs Intelligence and Investigation Services-Manila International Container Port (CIIS-MICP) ahensya kasama ang Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Task Force Aduana at ang National Bureau of Investigation-Organized and Transnational Crime Division (NBI-OTCD), matapos makatanggap ng ulat tungkol sa “paihi” modus, o ang ilegal na paglilipat ng langis, sa Pantalan ng La Union.
Pahayag naman ni BOC-CIIS Director Verne Enciso, “The MT Bernadette was in the process of transferring diesel fuels to a lorry truck when our team apprehended them , Two lorry trucks were found containing diesel fuel from the motor tanker.”
Ayon kay BOC Commissioner Bien Rubio, mas pinaigting ng Aduana ang mga operasyon laban sa fuel pilferage o mga unmarked fuel sa bansa, hindi lamang dahil sa epekto nito sa ekonomiya kundi pati na rin sa panganib na maaari nitong idulot sa mga consumer.
Ayon sa BOC, lumabas sa paunang imbentaryo na may 200,000 litro ng diesel fuel ang karga ng marine tanker bukod pa sa karagdagang 59,000 litro ng langis na nasa dalawang lorry truck.
Inaresto din ang 10 tripulante ng barko na bigong magpakita ng legal na dokumento kaugnay sa kanilang operasyon.
Bukod sa mga tripulante, inaresto rin ng mga awtoridad ang 11 iba pang indibidwal na nagsilbing mga drayber, kargador, tagamasid,at kasabwat.
Ang mga may-ari,kapitan ng barko at tripulante ng MT Bernadette at ng mga lorry truck, pati na rin ang may-ari ng nasamsam na diesel fuel, ay haharap sa mga kasong administratibo at kriminal dahil sa paglabag sa Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) at Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law.
