Manila Police District (MPD) spokesman Maj. Philipp Ines denied reports that a Japanese national had been robbed at gunpoint in Chinatown recently in broad daylight, saying it was ‘false reporting.’

Ines also said that MPD will come out with a statement on the matter later.

Before this, there are reports that a Japanese national was robbed at gunpoint by riding-in-tandem suspects in broad daylight in the busy area of Chinatown in Binondo, Manila.

The incident reportedly occured at around 1 p.m. on April 25, 2026 and that owing to it, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan had issued a renewed security advisory for its citizens in the Philippines.

The victim was said to have been walking alone in a busy street in Chinatown when an armed man approached him, pointed a gun at his body and declared a holduip.

Once his valuables were taken, the suspect reportedly fled the scene by boarding a motorcycle driven by his accomplice.
