A 56-year-old retired policeman serving as a security detail for Mayor Isko Moreno was gunned down by two suspects riding a motorcycle. The incident reportedly took place at past 12 a.m. of March 15, Sunday, right in the vicinity of his own home in Tondo, Manila.
The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the victim as George Capistrano, 56, who died of gunshot wounds in the body while receiving treatment at the Tondo Medical Center.
Based on a CCTV recording, the victim was said to be walking in the area when the suspects trailed him while on board a motorcycle.
They then tried to snatch the victim’s necklace upon reaching the area near the corner of Salonga and Buendia Streets in Barangay 134, Balut, Tondo. As the victim resisted, he was shot by one of the suspects who then fled toward Honorio Lopez Street.
Police were told by Capistrano’s wife that she was inside their home when she heard two gunshots. When she got out of the house to check, she found her husband already lying on the pavement with gunshot wounds.
The victim was taken to the nearest hospital by concerned residents but died just the same.
Police said that a dragnet operation has been put in place to find the suspects who remain unidentified.
