Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Eric Ines said they have concluded the second phase of a series of scheduled electrical system upgrades at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, which has been running since April 2 last month until today.
This allowed MIAA to complete the replacement of deteriorated medium-voltage switchgear components across eight different electrical substations within Terminal 3., he said
Ines added that the final segment of power-related maintenance activity began at 12:01 a.m. today and was concluded at 3:00 a.m. Similar to the previous works, MIAA’s generator sets provided power to the Terminal giving priority to critical equipment and facilities to ensure continuous passenger processing and uninterrupted flight operations.
There was however observable lack in lighting in some parts of the terminal, particularly the curbsides, hallways and roadways, which the GM has already instructed MIAA Engineering to look into since these should have been powered up by the generator sets.
“These electrical upgrades are important to us, and we are very happy with the conclusion, as it guarantees a more dependable electrical system for the Terminal. We are however mindful of some issues in a specific area of the terminal as a result of this upgrade and we will continue to work on these until they are fully resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this time,” Ines said in closing.
