The Philippine Navy welcomed Lieutenant General Michael Cederholm, Commanding General, I Marine Expeditionary Force of the United States Marine Corps, during his visit at the Navy Headquarters in Manila.
LtGen. Cederholm was received by Major General Edwin Amadar PN(M), Vice Commander of the Philippine Navy, as the representative of the Flag Officer In Command during the courtesy call. The visit highlighted the longstanding and ever-strengthening military alliance between the Philippines and the United States.
Both officials reaffirmed their countries’ shared commitment to regional security, peace, and stability. They discussed the importance of joint military exercises such as the upcoming Balikatan and Sama Sama, which are designed to improve interoperability, enhance readiness, and strengthen cooperation between the two forces.
They also talked about ways to improve collaboration by addressing logistical challenges, enhancing joint training programs, and adopting advanced technologies to build a more resilient and capable defense partnership.
“Our great countries share a belief in democracy. We share a belief in our respective orders. We share a belief in seeking peaceful resolution. Make no mistake—our two great countries have some incredible warriors. And if peace does fail, if diplomacy doesn’t work, then we can carry on with our mission. I can’t think of a better and longer-standing partner than the one we’ve had since 1951. It’s a truly incredible relationship built over time, and I don’t think it’s ever been stronger. We’re thankful for that,” said LtGen. Cederholm.
This visit reaffirmed the deep-rooted defense cooperation between the Philippines and the United States. It also demonstrated both countries’ commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
