PH NAVY GATHERS ASEAN NAVY CHIEFS IN MANILA FOR 17TH ANCM

NAVAL STATION JOSE ANDRADA, Manila – The Philippine Navy (PN) took the lead in the coming together of the navy chiefs in the ASEAN region for the 17th ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting (ANCM) in Taguig City the other day.

PH Navy Flag Officer In Command, Vice Adm. Toribio Adaci Jr. said, ANCM is a premier meeting among naval leaders of ASEAN countries to discuss and exchange ideas about strategic steps to be taken collectively in maintaining maritime security in the Southeast Asian region.

This year’s iteration was steered by the theme “Synergy At Sea: Regional Cohesion for Peace and Stability.” Vice Adm. Toribio Adaci Jr., welcomed the delegates and looked forward to a fruitful session and “substantive discussions that further strengthen our relations on the seas.”


“ANCM has always been an effective avenue for regional cooperation particularly in tackling major maritime issues that shape not just the maritime domain but also the entire region,” said Vice Adm. Adaci.

Joining the PH Navy Flag Officer In Command in the plenary session are all the ASEAN Navy Chiefs.


The plenary session included the viewpoint exchange among navy chiefs on the 17th ANCM theme. Vice Admiral Adaci emphasized here the importance of synergy and working collectively in ensuring a secure, peaceful, and prosperous Southeast Asia as “the plethora of challenges that we face remain imminent.”

Meanwhile, Vice Adm. Toribio Adaci Jr., undertook worthwhile efforts to maximize engagements with ASEAN counterparts at the sidelines of the ANCM.


Vice Adm. Adaci held a productive series of bilateral meetings with navy chiefs which resulted in agreements to pursue collaborative activities in the field of education and training, staff-to-staff talks, and capability development.

The 17th ANCM approved key initiatives such as the ANCM Roadmap 2024-2032, and the Guidelines for Maritime Interaction (GMI). Also discussed were the proposed amendments in the conduct of ASEAN Multilateral Naval Exercise (AMNEX), and the overviews of future activities as presented by those in charge.
