IN order to give all citizens of the country in general, and residents of the city of Manila in particular, full opportunity to witness the inauguration of incoming President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., a holiday had been declared in Manila by Mayor Isko Moreno on June 30, 2022.
The presidential inaugural ceremonies of Marcos, Jr. as the 17th Chief Executive of the Philippines will be held on June 30 at the National Museum of the Philippines Old Legislative Building.
Located at Padre Burgos Avenue in Ermita, Manila, the site of the Old Congress is a major avenue in the city.
The historic building has served as the site for the inauguration of former Presidents Manuel L. Quezon in 1953, Jose P. Laurel in 1943 and Manuel Roxas in 1946.
“To ensure the safety, security and protection of participants to this momentous event, the city government of Manila, in coordination with the concerned agencies of the national government, has to close various thoroughfares in and around the perimeter of the inaugural venue which will undeniably affect the flow of traffic of both motorists and the riding public,” Moreno stated in his Executive Order No. 53, Series of 2022 which he signed on June 22.
“It is but fitting and proper to declare Thursday a special non-working holiday throughout the city as well as order the Manila Presidential District and all law enforcement officers, including barangay officials, to strictly adopt and implement secrurity measures on said date,” the order stated further.
Moreno said the holiday will give everyone the chance to witness and welcome such a significant event in the life of the nation. (Baby Cuevas)
