CONGRATULATIONS, mga ‘Batang Maynila!’

Thus said Mayor Isko Moreno as he received in his office at the Manila City Hall the Philippine athletes who took home medals in the recently-concluded SEA games in Vietnam and expressed pride that they all hail from Manila.

The athletes, who are joined by Angelica Yulo, the mother of gymnast Carlos Edriel, who won five gold medals in the 31st Southeast Asian Games or more commonly known as the 2022 SEA Games. It was learned that Yulo is in Japan for training.

Also joining the athletes were the vloggers who have closely followed the career of Moreno and who have covered his activities as city mayor, led by Channel Redz and Francisco Ponce.

The athletes who paid a courtesy call to Moreno are as follows: Ivan cruz – silver medalist; Aj Melgar- 4th; Divina Sembrano- 4th; Andrea Emperado- 4th; Ma. Cristina Loberanes- Gold; Rafael Ablaza- silver (coach); Jag Timbang, silver and Mattew Vergara, silver. They comprise the country’s gymnastics team.

Moreno extolled the athletes whom he said continue to give pride to their country despite the pandemic and economic difficulties.

“Thank you for giving hope and pride to our country kahit na may pandemya. Sana, tularan kayo ng ibang mga bata,” Moreno said.

Moreno was particularly elated that those who paid him a courtesy visit and who won in the said international sporting event are residents of Leveriza, Sampaloc, Tondo, Singalong, Abad Santos, Intramuros and Sta. Cruz.

“Congratulations mga Batang Maynila,” he said, jesting that he is also a gold medalist in the ‘walang tulugan” event, since the job of those in government can also be considered a ‘marathon’ event. (Baby Cuevas)
